Yeah, I was walkin’ down the stairs and
bein’ followed by a ghost. The night was
long and the day looks hard, but I think
I’m gettin’ closer to a landing, on my feet
again. But I am slippin’, fallin’, stumblin’
still, in my mind. So, you wanna be a
fighter? Well, then c’mon, I’ll tag you in,
and I’ll grab my hat, and grab my coat and
go, and you can call and tell me if you lose
or win. And while you’re slippin’, fallin’,
stumblin’ still, in your mind, I’m gonna
get my, I’m gonna get my hat and my
coat. And, you can bet I, yeah, you can bet
I’ll be laughin’ when I’m goin’. Yeah, and I’ll
bet some of these numbers here, might
bring a brighter day. I play them all twelve
months a year, in groups of thirty-one
and thirty, and twenty-nine or twenty-
eight. Yeah, it’s not like I’m not tryin’. And,
while I’m slippin’, fallin’, stumblin’ still, in my
mind, you say you only wanna blame me,
so you can watch me stand accused. But
for every finger pointed at me, three are
pointed back at you. Yeah, you could
never lose, but you can never win, ‘cause
while you’re slippin’, fallin’, stumblin’ still,
in your mind, I’m gonna get my, I’m gonna
get my hat and my coat. And, you can
bet I, yeah, you can bet I’ll be laughin’
when I’m goin’. So, take your wreckin’ ball
and crash it through my wall, and I’ll just
embrace the light it opens to my eyes.
And, if it should knock me down, well, I’ll
leave you with the sound of the slippin’,
fallin’, stumblin’ still, in your mind. And
while you’re slippin’, fallin’, stumblin’ still,
in your mind, I’m gonna get my, I’m gonna
get my hat and my coat.
And
while you’re slippin’, fallin’, stumblin’ still,
in your mind, I’m gonna get my, I’m gonna
get my hat and my coat. And, you can bet
I, yeah, you can bet I’ll be laughin’ when
I’m goin’. And, as I was walkin’ down the
stairs, I was bein’ followed by a ghost.

“…singer-songwriter Bill Scorzari transcends titles like songwriter or poet. He catapults past categories into a dark
ruminative and ultimately life-affirming realm where folklore, memories, pain, prayer, and incantation meet.” - March/April 2020 issue, Acoustic Guitar Magazine
